Default Tall Ships

Two years ago I went to see the Tall Ships enter the Duluth harbor and had to deal with huge crowds of rude people, impossible traffic, nonexistant parking to take pictures of tall masted ships surrounded by pleasure craft, coast guard boats, helicopters, etc - it was not fun.

This year, I tried a different approach to the problems and the results were a little better . . . .

What was the different approach? Whatever it was, it worked. #1 in particular is fabulous.

Thanks, Bill.

On the day before the Parade of Sail, I stopped by the Coast Guard office in Canal Park and discovered that most of the ships were due in the area on that evening. On the day of the Parade, the ships marshalled at the Lester River a little north of Duluth at noon. So, on the morning of the Parade, I drove back and forth between Duluth and Two Harbors and found most of them anchored or sailing just off shore - easy photos with no distracting pleasure boats.

On the day of the Parade, I hustled up to Enger Park and used my telephoto while I sat in my lawn chair sipping a beverage a few dozen feet from my car in the free parking lot.

All nice, but I really like that first one. Captures the height and majesty of the ship. Nicely done!

You did well. I like the ones without the more modern craft.

#1, #3 and #4. Is there an echo here? All nice! I like that misty, oof look helps place the subject matter! Maybe a quick clone of the vessel to the right in #1? (Just listen to me ramble on like I know what I am talking about!)

Doug - great footwork and it looks like it paid off. I'm partial to #1 and #4.
