I was wondering if he has a early start on his winter's coat or a late start on his summer's coat

I enjoy the feeding behavior captured in the first image and the interesting look to the molting coat. I've looked at the first image a few times now and I can't help but think that the deer looks like it has a horn growing out of the center of it's head, even though I know it's just the ear turned funny but it looks like a little dark triangular horn

I really like that first shot. There are some twigs/leaves over the face, but that happens and I don't really find it distracting. Composition is fetching and I like the dynamic of the deer turning its head to reach back to the leaves. Nicely done.

I really need to get out and do more big mammal shooting....

Thanks for the comments. Jerry, he's definately losing that tawny summer coat. He had patches of gray showing through all over his body.

Shawn, that ear does make it appear as tho the deer has an extra protuberance. I could clone it out, but I think its better left alone. If I were to remove anything in this image, it would be the light colored horizontal branch that just cuts across the tip of the right antler.

Gordon, I also like the twigs/leaves across the deer's face. Adds a bit of depth to the image and suggests a little concealment imo.

The second is very nice, and the first is a very nice environmental shot, although I would clone out the branch across the antlers. Great photos - thanks for sharing!
